Annie’s Story

Our founder’s daughter and niece, Annie was a healthy Big Ten scholarship athlete who suddenly began experiencing persistent digestive issues. She struggled to keep food down, lost weight, and noticed her skin and hair becoming unhealthy.

Although medical tests ruled out celiac disease, doctors recommended a gluten-free diet. While this provided some relief, her symptoms never fully went away.

Everything changed when Annie studied abroad in Italy. With access to local, organic foods, she was surprised to find she could eat pasta, breads, and pastries without any digestive problems. In fact, not only did her digestion improve, but she felt fuller with less food, enjoyed richer flavors, and began regaining her healthy weight. Her skin and hair recovered, and all her previous symptoms disappeared.

When she returned home, Annie was back to her vibrant, healthy self.

Her uncle, a 17-year veteran of the industrial food processing industry, explained that her experience was not unusual. The way wheat is grown, processed, and preserved in the U.S. often prioritizes yield and efficiency over nutrition, which can negatively impact health. Research continues to confirm this connection.

Annie’s story is one of the reasons behind our passion at Original Grains.
